Computrainer Based Classes Kick Off at B&S Sport Science!
Computrainer Cycling Program
Introducing our new C4 Approach: Competition-Crushing Computrainer Classes for Cyclists and Triathletes of all levels
Developed by experienced coaches using cutting edge-science and Computrainer technology, our training classes provide you affordable access to the tools and training methods used so successfully by elite athletes.
"TRAIN HARD AND TRAIN SMART"
Knowing your power-output on the bike is crucial to successful training. But power-meters are expensive and it can be difficult to know how best to use them effectively in workouts and racing. The C4 Approach uses Computrainers to test your power and dial in your training efforts in a series of specific workouts designed to maximize your racing power. Whether you are currently training with or without a power-meter, our classes will help you get the most out of your winter training.
Class Structure
-Attend 1 class (75 minutes) per week and complete 2 prescribed workouts on your own
-Our 6 Computrainers are available for drop-in use during non-class hours
-6 to 1 athlete to coach ratio
-Testing allows all workouts to be tailored to your individual power-profile
-Retesting will allow your workouts to evolve with your fitness
-Development progresses through 3 sessions of 4 weeks each
Schedule
Classes begin the week of January 10th, 2011
Tuesday at 5:45am
Wednesday at 6:00pm
Saturday at 8:00am
Class Prices
$90/4-week session
$240 for the full 12-weeks
Details of the C4 Training Approach
Tha goal of this approach is to specifically improve functional threshold power - FTP (also known as AT, LT, critical threshold, and 1-hour power) - in cyclists and multisport athletes. FTP is the most crucial physiological benchmark relating to performance in the cycling leg of triathlon, in most cycling events, and even strongly correlates to improvements in run pacing off the bike in distances ranging from sprint triathlons through Ironman distance events.
The C4 approach utilizes mixed periodization, using high-intensity intervals, threshold intervals, sub-threshold intervals, and endurance rides to achieve maximal improvements in FTP at the end of the 12-week training period. The use of Computrainers is critical to the program. By measuring the direct power output of the cyclist (rather than a secondary biomarker such as HR or RPE or a secondary performance measurement such as speed), the training efforts can be carefully limited to the ranges necessary for optimal training stress.
The primary key workout is done in class 1x per week. Two secondary cycling workouts are also assigned, which can be done with or without power measurement. If the participant has a power meter at their disposal, that unit can be calibrated to their assigned Computrainer during initial testing. They will then be provided wattages for use during their non-class based workouts.
Initial tests are conducted the first week of the session, and a retest is conducted at 6-weeks and at 12-weeks. Participants are assigned the same Computrainer to test and utilize for the duration of the training, to ensure consistency of power measurement (precision is more important than accuracy for our purposes).
